Management and Conservation of RPPN Fazenda Almas

RESEARCH 

 

A number of research projects have been conducted in the Fazenda Almas nature reserve, under the guidance of teaching staff from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), of APNE and other institutions. Below is a list of the projects.  Those written in English are highlighted in blue; the rest are all in Portuguese.

 

  • Seasonal variations in scorpion activities (Arachnida: Scorpiones) in an area of Caatinga vegetation in northeastern Brazil.

  • Seasonal activity of Dinoponera quadriceps Santschi (Formicidae, Ponerinae) in the semi-arid Caatinga of northeastern Brazil.

  • Seasonality of insects in the semi-arid Caatinga of northeastern Brazil.

  • Sampling, estimation of species richness and temporal variation in the diversity, diet, and reproduction of birds in an area of Caatinga in Brazil.

  • The Gymnophthalmid lizards (Squamata: Gymnophthalmidae) of the Paraiban Cariri region and Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte, northeastern Brazil: Considerations as to their geographical distribution and ecology.

  • Anurans associated with temporary pools in the Cariri region of Paraíba - doctoral thesis.

  • Species richness and resource utilisation in an assemblage of Squamata in arboreal Caatinga of the Cariri region, Paraíba.

  • Annual monitoring of survival and growth of angico-de-caroço after clear-cutting. (Results of the intervention have yet to be published).

  • Floristic composition and structure of the herbaceous community.

  • Diversity of flora in a rocky outcrop in the Cariri region of Paraíba.

  • Dispersal of seeds of three species of Cactaceae: Richness and efficiency of dispersers vs. spatio-temporal resource availability (Pilosocereus gounellei; Pilosocereus chrysostele and Tacinga inamoena. 2011 and 2012 (in progress)

  • Dispersal syndromes of plant species of the Cariri region of Paraíba. 2008.

  • Registration of three sites in the National Registry of Archeological Sites (CNSA).
