Goals and objectives

The current project aims at planting a total of 18,250 seedlings of this species, divided between the States of Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte, in climatically suitable areas, with the objective of leading the way for commercial plantations.  Another 7,500 seedlings are destined for reintroduction in areas of natural occurrence, within surviving fragments of Atlantic forest in the same three States.

The commercial plantations are mainly targeted at violin bow makers, whilst the reintroduction activities are aimed at preservation of the species in the wild.
